About Andrew
Hi all! I’m Captain Andrew Scorzelli, a mariner with 30 years at sea and a 100 Ton US Coast Guard Captain License. I grew up in New York, 12 miles north of the Bronx and first came to Alaska when I was 18, having a young man’s spiritual/existential crisis. My original plan was to achieve inner peace and become one with nature before going back to NY for college. Somewhere during that quest, however, I discovered commercial fishing and never turned back.
Now I am retiring from hard labor and would love to share with you the wild and magical places I’ve discovered while fishing for a living - places where I’ve had those moments of inner peace and being one with nature. It’s time to slow down and enjoy Alaska! Let's take the boat out and explore wilderness bays, fiords, and inlets - “What’s around that corner?!” Take out the kayaks and hang out with the otters, help set crab and shrimp pots and have a fantastic seafood dinner. We’ll make a fire on the beach and you and your friends and family can enjoy beverages or toast marshmallows.
I still have my commercial fishing permit, so if one REALLY wants to see how salmon trolling is done I will show you. This activity will be limited, however, unless YOU want to clean and ice a hundred salmon, which I am not opposed to. Other things about me worth knowing are that I love to read books, listen to music, travel and write fiction in the winter months. I also love comedy, joking, and laughing. I can be quiet and reflective and I can be gregarious and entertaining. You can expect I will give you what you need: space or camaraderie. In short, I'm a good shipmate!
